Starting this very month, I’ll be featuring three different categories of home bar and pirate-themed items. First will include a home bar, either designed or for sale, highlighting main features and benefits. Second will include a home bar product that is unique, useful, and may include a pirate-theme. Third will simply be for that pirate-lover in all of us; an accoutrement or decoration that could fit great in a themed bar or just in your personal collection. Shortly following this post will be the very first home bar accessory for June/July, so stay tuned!
Pirates of the Caribbean Ride Re-Opening with New Changes

As shared here way back in July almost one year ago, we announced that Disney planned some changes to their classic POTC ride attraction. The previous segment with the female wench auction has now been replaced with an auction of a different sort, now led by one of the previous auctionees in her new piratey attire. Commonly known as “Red”, the previous wench for auction is now a buxom buccaneer! Check out the article and video here, as this new character is debuted.

LEGO Ship in a Bottle Review

The new LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle set is now officially part of the pirate bar! Although their stock was low, I was able to pick it up at our local LEGO store. It does look like the set is available online again now, after quickly selling out at first. It retails for $69.99, and is totally worth it. Check it out here.
The set is a lot of fun to put together and is a testament to the LEGO System’s functionality for model-making. As such, this set most definitely falls more into the model category vs. a toy. The components are very small and intricate and when finished, looks pretty legit.
The aptly-named “Leviathan”‘s sails feature a dragon-like sea monster, the general appearance of which hail back to the classic days of LEGO Castle sets (for those of you who remember).
The building experience is fun. You build the ship first, followed by the bottom half of the bottle. After inserting the ship, you finish the top half, then the base that the whole bottle sits in. The compass featured on the base is a nice touch.
Despite being a LEGO piece (and classically thought of as a toy), this truly resembles a model and looks great on the mantle next to my model Spanish frigate.

New LEGO Ship in a Bottle Set

I’m a very proud AFOL (Adult Fan Of LEGO) and accordingly, the Pirate Bar has a LEGO version of the Black Pearl as well as Brickheadz versions of Jack Sparrow and Armando Salazar as part of the decor.
LEGO just recently released a new set through their IDEAS line–sets conceived of and designed by regular people that go through a voting process to gain approval and some tweaking by professional designers before release–and it is awesome. The Ship in a Bottle set looks amazing and has a great deal of detail.
Its popularity also cannot be understated, as it is already on back-order both online and in LEGO stores. Here’s hoping I’ll find one to grace the mantelpiece.
Sea of Thieves Coming Out for PC and XBox One

For all you gamers out there, check out the new pirate-themed MMO called Sea of Thieves. Due out in late March, Sea of Thieves will be an extremely open-ended MMO allowing you to sail the seven seas pillaging, plundering, (and battling the un-dead and sea monsters) all you like. You’ll be able to join or build a crew and pit yourself against other real-time players. While a little cartoony, it still looks like the best incarnation since Black Flag. Check out the official site and some trailers here.
