Rain pelts the deck, the masts creak and the sails flap and flutter in the wind. The dark sea is filled with whitecaps and in the distance, lightning flashes against the dark stormclouds ahead.

Traditionally a fall beverage, the title of this Bermudian drink fits great with our pirate theme. In a more modern sense, imagine sipping this in September or October with those heavy fall clouds outside the window. Or, in the summer when one of those afternoon storms rolls in. Head to your bar, light up the candles or your lantern, sit back in your chair by the fire, and enjoy with your favorite mood-setting tunes.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz dark rum (the darker, the better)
  • 3-4 oz of ginger beer (play around with the proportions a bit)
  • 1/2 oz lime juice (apparently, the lime is a contentious addition to Bermudians, but in the States, it’s the norm)
  • ice

Preferred Glass: Collins

Directions

1. Add ice to your glass.

2. Pour in the ginger beer and your lime juice.

3. Pour in your choice of dark rum on top.

4. Stir (use that bar spoon!) and enjoy.
